Giving Back Through an Estate Gift

Giving Back Through an Estate Gift

Noreen Johnson

"Give back what you got and more." This mantra rings true for Noreen Johnson. Noreen returned to school in 1992 to develop her professional potential and chose Green River because, as she recalls, this was "the college I'd kept hearing about." When she arrived on campus, Noreen headed for the Women's Center where Maid Adams, the Center's director, came out of her office that day, put her arms around Noreen, and asked, "What can I do to help you?" This meeting - and the compassionate response to her needs - cemented a relationship between Noreen and GRCC that endures to this day. Noreen retired in 1998 from her successful second career and has chosen to live life to its fullest! She travels, volunteers, gardens, and is an avid reader. Noreen has watched and supported Green River through its many incarnations. The initial reception she received in the Women's Center has stayed close to Noreen's heart; in turn, a portion of her gifts have supported the Women's Center. She set up a planned gift through her estate, known as a TOD (Transfer On Death), that turns an investment fund in excess of $100,000 directly over to the Foundation rather than going through probate. She says this gift was simple to plan, simple to set up, and gives her peace of mind to know the college that helped her so much will now benefit from her contribution. Noreen hopes this will inspire others to follow her lead and support GRCC Foundation through their estate planning efforts.
